What Lights You Up?

(For upcoming music performance dates, scroll to the bottom of this email!)

This week I got an impromptu opportunity to share the story of finding my voice and how I now also show up more powerfully in my music as a result.

I said yes to this unexpected virtual opportunity even though we're in the middle of planning and packing and moving to Louisiana (fingers crossed the process goes smoothly) because it was easy and I knew that it would bring me joy during a crazy week.

So at 9pm Tuesday night, I got on Zoom and "relaxed" in a way that is special to me.

Seeing the delight on the attendees' faces (even through the digital screen) and hearing how much they enjoyed the stories and music I played lit me up.

And today I'm energized to continue the mundane (to me) packing process.

Today I have a simple question for you: What lights YOU up?

And how can you access that easy boost of energy to help you do something that you find difficult/tiresome next week?

This is one of the secrets to becoming more charismatic in your life! Fill your cup with joy often so that you have reserves available when more challenging tasks arise.

In case you're feeling stuck, here are some additional examples to get your imagination going:

  • biting into a fresh, juicy watermelon on a hot summer's day
  • laughing with friends
  • feeling the breeze on your face during a bike ride
  • exploring a new place or landscape
  • the sound of applause after you've delivered a well-prepared presentation

No matter what it is that lights you up, find a way to experience that this week and recharge your battery now so that you're prepared for later!

With gratitude,

Ashley

I'd love to see you at my upcoming public gigs!

(Scroll down for upcoming music performance dates!) Aloha! When I first tell someone I'm an ukulele player, they often assume I play Hawaiian music... Here in south Louisiana, however, luaus are few and far between. In fact, I've probably only ever played for 3 or 4 Hawaiian/Polynesian/tropical-themed events ever in the almost 10 years I've enjoyed playing this delightful instrument. But last Friday night was one of those times! I performed during a special luau-themed dinner at The Barclay...

(Scroll down for upcoming music performance dates!) Speechless I was always one of the "tall kids" growing up. It had some advantages (I could help my 5'0" maw maw reach top shelf pots by age 12). But even though I took up more vertical space than the average American female, in most ways, I've always been a late bloomer. I had no idea Kenny Washington was, too. At 65, Washington (who happens to be about as tall as my maw maw was...) has had a long, illustrious career as a jazz vocalist. He's...

(For upcoming music performance dates, scroll to the bottom of this email!) Sometimes when we're struggling to get to a new level of our talent, career, mindset, etc., it's easy to forget just how far we've already come. I recently digitized some old cassette tapes from my childhood and found this gem of a clip. It's my shy, quiet, pre-teen self trying VERY HARD to sing my favorite Christmas song, "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Click the picture of the cassette player below to hear the...
